Living Healthy Program

Participating in the DMBA Living Healthy Program

The Living Health Wellness Program, previously called the Healthy Me program at BYU, is one of the most effective tools DMBA offers to help you improve your health. By making simple decisions every day, you will improve your life for years to come. Plus, you and your spouse can each receive up to $250 in health premium refunds each year based on your participation, as long as neither of you is enrolled in Medicare. Click here to view the DMBA Living Healthy Program Overview.

Throughout each calendar year, eligible employees and spouses can each participate in 6 wellness challenges, valued at $30 each, and can take the Health Risk Assessment (HRA), valued at $70.

Watch this brief video that will show you how you and your spouse can participate in the program.

DMBA Living Healthy Program Tutorial

Note: The reimbursement amounts earned by both employee and spouse will accumulate throughout the year and will be received on one of the employee's paychecks between January and March of the following year.

Note: Eligibility to participate in the DMBA Living Healthy Wellness Program is dependent on having a qualifying DMBA medical insurance plan, not on employment status. If you are a retiree on a qualifying insurance plan, you can continue participating in the Living Healthy Program until you turn 65 years old.

Wellness Challenges

Wellness Challenges are held over 2-month periods. This means that challenges start at the beginning of odd-numbered months and end at the close of even-numbered months.

These challenges are self-guided, self-paced, and self-reported. It is up to you to choose a challenge that will help improve your personal wellness. The challenge needs to last the duration of the challenge period and you need to complete 75% or more of your challenge to mark it as completed. To mark a challenge as completed, you can either simply log into dmba.com and report on your challenges on the home dashboard, or you can go to the DMBA Living Healthy Program Reporting page.

DMBA provides ideas for wellness challenges, but you are also welcome to create your own.

Health Risk Assessments

The Health Risk Assessment (HRA) asks you to input some bio-medical information and to complete a holistic evaluation of your health. By answering simple questions, you can better understand the effects your choices have on your health. This confidential assessment also gives you a starting point and acts as a guide as you make new, healthy lifestyle changes.

In order to fill out the HRA, you will need to have your cholesterol, glucose, and triglyceride numbers, as well as your blood pressure. This generally involves taking your blood pressure and either a finger prick or blood draw.

To obtain this bio-medical information, you may do one of the following:

  • Sign up for a Triple Screening from the Student Health Center.

Appointments are required to get a triple screening from the Student Health Center. You can get your triple screening done at any point during the year, but we encourage you to go close to your birth month or before November each calendar year.

Appointments are generally available Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 8 am - 11 am and Fridays 9 am - 11 am.

If you have never visited the Student Health Center before, please call 801-422-5156 to register as a patient and schedule your appointment.

If you are already a registered patient at the Student Health Center (you are a patient if you have received a triple screening there before), you are welcome to schedule an appointment online. You will need to select the "Wellness labs" service.

To prepare for your triple screening, make sure that you fast for 8-10 hours before the appointment. Please do not fast longer than 12 hours before your appointment and be sure to drink lots of water! If you do not fast before your appointment, your screening results will not be accurate and thus cannot be used for diagnostic purposes, but you will still be permitted to receive your triple screening.

  • Make an appointment for a triple screening with your own medical provider.

If you cannot go to the Student Health Center, most medical providers have the ability to do this triple screening for you, and of course you are encouraged to make this appointment whenever works best for you during the year.

Once you have gotten your triple screening done, don't forget to take the Health Risk Assessment by December 31st. Once you submit the assessment, you'll receive a report regarding your health risks. By taking steps to mitigate these risks, you can improve your health and wellness.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • As the employee, log into your DMBA account. If your spouse has granted you permission to view their claims, you will be able to mark both yours and your spouse's challenges as complete on the Wellness Challenge card on your DMBA dashboard.

Only the policy holder is automatically given an account. If your spouse would like to make their own account, they will need the primary policy holder to log in to DMBA.com. At the top of the page, go to My Plans > My Benefit Information > Manage Dependents. On the 'Manage Dependents' page, there should be a button that says "Create login" next to the name of your spouse. Enter in the spouse's email address and they will be sent a temporary username and password to create their account.

For more questions about account access or if you encounter difficulties, contact DMBA Member Services at 801-578-5600.

Generally speaking, most employees that have been using the Living Healthy program prefer to log in with the employee's credentials where both the employee and the spouse can report on challenges and the Health Risk Assessments.

  • As the employee, log in to DMBA's website and go to Medical Health > Claims. If your spouse’s name is listed under the options for claims, then they already have access. If you have further questions about this, reach out to WellnessCustService@dmba.com.

  • Everyone covered on your plan will show up in your DMBA account and on the wellness page (and all are welcome to participate in making healthy life choices), but only the employee and their spouse can be eligible to receive the premium reimbursement.

  • Incentives for the year are distributed the quarter after the year the challenges are completed in. For example, if you are an eligible participant and complete Challenge 1, you will receive the incentive before April 1st of the following year, along with all of the other incentives earned up to $250, on the employee's paycheck as a 'premium reimbursement'.

  • This means you will get that cash on your paycheck. Keep in mind that normal payroll taxes do apply to these reimbursements.

  • You cannot receive your reimbursements directly as CougarCash, but you can use the BYU app to load your incentive amount into your CougarCash account after receiving the incentives. See this page about how to load these incentives onto your CougarCash account.

  • All you have to do is choose a challenge from the Living Healthy Wellness Challenge page, track its completion, then mark the challenge as completed during the reporting period, which you will receive an email reminder for from DMBA. The reporting period typically opens the last week of even-numbered months.

  • If you miss the reporting window, you will need to contact the DMBA Customer Service team (801-578-5600 or DMBACustService@dmba.com). You will have until the end of the year to report on that year’s challenges. DMBA will also send out email reminders at the end of each challenge.

  • Yes, you have access to the list of challenges for the entire year on DMBA's website. You can choose any challenge you like and can even repeat challenges if you want. Follow the instructions from the video tutorial above to get to the list of Wellness Challenges.

  • You can complete your HRA at any point during the calendar year, but it needs to be submitted on DMBA's website by December 31st each year. You can either make an appointment with the BYU Student Health Center or you can make an appointment with your own healthcare provider at any time that is convenient for you. See this page for more details.

  • Past HRAs are available on the HRA dashboard on DMBA's website. Log in, hover over 'My Health' and select 'Health Risk Assessment'. It should take you to a new page where you can click ‘Take HRA’ and see your past HRAs as well.

  • Your earnings from the wellness challenges and the Health Risk Assessment will be paid out in the first quarter of the year following the one in which you completed them. Your earnings should be reflected as a reimbursement to your insurance premium on your paycheck.

For example, if you completed one challenge and the HRA in 2023, you should see a reimbursement of $100 to your insurance premium, reflected on your paycheck, sometime between January 1, 2024 and April 1, 2024.

  • Everything you earned will still be distributed in Q1 of the following year, but it will be paid directly to you.

  • Each person is eligible for up to $250 per year. Having double-coverage does NOT mean that the amount of your possible refund is increased.
