Fun Things to Do in the Fall (Near Provo)

Every season brings opportunities for new and enriching experiences. Here are a few ideas for things you and your family can do this fall to add a little variety and fun to your life.

Scenic Hikes

  • Stewart Falls
    A classic hike up Provo Canyon. 3.5 miles roundtrip and family friendly. Enjoy fall colors along the way and end at a picturesque 200 ft. waterfall. 
  • Grotto Falls
    This very easy hike of about 0.6 miles is great for all skill levels. Located near Santaquin, you can bring the whole family on this hike and enjoy a steep waterfall at the end.
  • Battle Creek Falls
    An easy hike located near Pleasant Grove. 1.5 miles roundtrip with a waterfall. Many people enjoy rappelling off the cliffs near the waterfall.
  • Squaw Peak
    Enjoy beautiful views of the valley from the top of the mountain. 

Scenic Drives

  • Alpine Loop
    Enjoy a 20-mile scenic drive through American Fork and Provo Canyon. Stop at any of the numerous trails (such as Cascade Springs) and enjoy the changing leaves of the quaking aspens. There is a $6 fee.
  • Nebo Loop
    Enjoy the beautiful fall leaves along the 38-mile Nebo Loop from Payson to Nephi. 

Fall Races

  • Haunted Half
    Dress up in your best (and most comfortable) costume and run a half marathon or 5K which starts in Provo canyon. There is also a children's run.

Fall Adventures (i.e. Pumpkin Patches, Corn Mazes, Haunted Houses and more)

  • Jaker's Jack-O-Lanterns
    Enjoy this free family friendly farm with a corn maze, hayrides, petting zoo, haunted cave, and more. 
  • The Pumpkin Patch
    A fun, low-key children's adventure in Orem with a free hayride on Monday and Friday nights, and free children’s activities. 
  • HeeHaw Farms
    Participate in a variety of autumn activities at this farm in Pleasant Grove. 
  • Wilkerson Farm Fall Fair
    Bring your family for a hayride, five-acre corn maze, apple shooters, pedal tractor racing and more. 
  • Heber Valley Railroad Pumpkin Train
    Ride through Provo Canyon on a charming train filled with Halloween adventure.
  • Pedal Provo Ghost Tours
    Ride your bike to discover local haunts. There is a cemetery route and a river trail route. 
  • Pumpkin Days
    Not-so-scary hallowing fun at Wheeler Farms. 
  • Sleepy Hollow Haunted Wagon Rides
    In Springville, Utah. This is based on the story of Ichabod Crane. Legend has it that the dark, foggy cottonwood forests between Springville City and Utah Lake are haunted. 
  • Witch Fest at Gardner Village
    Visit the village to see the displays and do a scavenger hunt to find them all. They also hold several one-time events throughout the month.

Fall Events

  • Cornbelly's Events
    Attend one of the many fun events this fall at Thanksgiving Point's Cornbelly's. 
  • Day of the Dead
    Join in the fun of Dia de los Muertos and enjoy lively music, art, food, dancers, storytellers, and more.
  • Provo Halloween Carnival
    Participate in themed games, animal and magician shows, a haunted house, trick or treat street, crafts, and candy for all! 
  • Scarecrow Festival
    Held at Thanksgiving Point Ashton Gardens. It runs for a week during mid-October if you want to attend.
