This is a basic recipe for hummus, but you can add different garnishes and blend extra ingredients in to make it even better. Find out what ingredients you like and experiment to see what tastes the best.
Ingredients
1/4 cup tahini paste
1/4 cup lemon juice
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic
1/4 teaspoon salt (add more to taste)
2 cans chickpeas (garbanzo beans) or 3 cups cooked
2-3 tablespoons of water
Instructions
- Add tahini paste, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, and salt to a food processor or blender and puree until smooth, 30-60 seconds.
- Rinse, drain, and remove any shells from chickpeas and add to the food processor. Blend for 3 minutes. If mixture is too thick, add 2-3 tablespoons of cold water to this it out to desired consistency.
- Taste the mixture and add more salt to taste to suit personal preference.
- Transfer to serving bowl. Add any optional garnishes. Store in the refrigerator.
