Mammogram March

Embarking on the path to health and wellbeing has never been more seamless! This March, BYU Employee Wellness and Utah Valley Hospital unite to provide a dedicated room at Utah Valley Hospital for the entire month of March, ensuring convenient access for all BYU employees (faculty, admin, staff, and students employed by the university), their spouses, their children, their neighbors, and their friends.

Mammograms are highly recommended for women aged 40 and above, especially for those with a family history of breast cancer. Early detection is key, as breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, with one in eight being diagnosed in their lifetime. Regular screenings help detect abnormalities early, increasing chances of successful treatment.

Utah Valley Hospital, ranked at the 99th percentile for the most pleasant patient experience nationwide, ensures your comfort during every step of your health journey.

Key Information

  • YOUR INSURANCE WILL BE CHARGED FOR THIS SCREENING. Confirm your coverage by reaching out to your insurance provider before scheduling your mammogram appointment. While many insurance providers fully cover preventative mammograms, not all do and it's up to you to find out if this will be a covered screening or cover its cost.

DMBA offers 100% coverage for preventative mammograms for women ages 40 and over, once per calendar year, at in-network providers. (UVH is in-network!) However, if you have a lump or any concerns about your breast, this would not qualify as a preventative screening. You will need to call the hospital directly in order to make an appointment. Please consult your insurance provider with any questions.

  • Appointments are a must. No walk-ins will be accommodated. Secure your preferred time and date promptly to prioritize your health.

If rescheduling or cancellation is necessary, kindly cancel your appointment at least 48 hours in advance, if not sooner to allow other women access to those slots. To reschedule, you can schedule another appointment through the confirmation message sent to your email. If your appointment is sooner than 48 hours, you must call UVRMC Scheduling at 801-357-3165 to cancel or reschedule.

    • How to Prepare: You are asked to not put on powders, lotions, or deodorants before your appointment. Please wear clothing that you can easily remove (this screening is the collection of tissue images of the breast, so access to the breast is required); you will be able to store your things in a locker during your appointment. If you have any questions about coverage, please consult your insurance provider before your appointment.
    • What to Expect: You can expect to be in and out of your appointment in about 30 minutes. You will have to check in at the kiosk and sign a consent form. You will then be taken to a dressing room where you will be given a dressing gown and space to store your belongings and clothing. The changing area is across the hallway from the exam rooms in the Women’s Center. There may be a short, 5-minute wait for the actual exam after dressing in the exam gown. The exam room will have one technician who will help you get positioned with the mammogram machine. The machine will then compress one breast and take two separate images (if you have breast implants, you will need to get 4 images). That process is repeated for the other breast as well. After the images are taken, you will get dressed and be able to leave. Radiologists will read your results the following day, so your doctor should be able to tell you your results within a week or two of getting your mammogram.
  • These mammogram screenings are taking place at Utah Valley Hospital, about a 5-minute drive south of campus. The hospital's address is 1034 N 500 W Provo, UT and the Imaging Center is in Building 2.

You have two options for where to park: south of Building 1 or north of Building 2.

    • South of Building 1: If you choose to park on the south side of the Building 1, you can either choose to utilize the free Valet Parking service located near the entrance to the building in the roundabout. You are also welcome to park in non-Emergency parking spaces to the south and southeast of the entrance. Once you enter the building, continue straight through the hallway past the Gift Shop, following signs for Imaging. The Imaging and General Radiology Center will be on the right hand side. If you reach the cafeteria, you’ve gone too far!
    • North of Building 2: Building 2 is the Women's and Children's building across the street from Chik-fil-A. You make park in spaces that are not designated for other purposes on this side of the building. Once you enter through the north entrance, go through the right hallway following signs for Imaging. Pass the Cardiology and Admitting lobby, and the Imaging and General Radiology Center will be on the left. If you reach the cafeteria, you’ve gone too far!
