Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Week

Dates: Sept 20-24
Help inspire positive change on campus through random acts of kindness during the week of September 20-14. To participate, just plan one kind act you can do for each day of the week.  Here is a postcard you can use to record your plan or get ideas.  When you complete an act of kindness you can pass along one of these cards to help keep the kind acts moving forward.  This is a great opportunity for you and your department to think of ways to appreciate vendors, customers, and students. Appreciation and acts of kindness can go a long way in creating positive relations. Let’s make this a week to remember.  The week will wrap up on Friday at noon with a fun RAK Service Event. Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Service Event

Date: Fri, Sept 24th
Time: Just drop by during your lunch hour, anytime between 11:00am-1:00pm
Place: 3228 WSC
Bring your co-workers and spend an hour serving those in need in our community. This is the culminating event for our Random Acts of Kindness week. There will be a variety of stations for you to choose from:

• Stuff bears or footballs, or trace patterns and cut out material for them. These items will go to a variety of organizations serving children (through Thanks In Deed)
• Tie winter hats from fleece for local refugees (through Lifting Hands International)
• Make cards or video messages for veterans in local veterans' homes (through Happiness for Heroes).
• Write messages of hope and encouragement on little kites for children at a local hospital (given directly to the hospital).
• Help bundle small camping/survival items to donate to a SLC Scout Troop made up of refugee girls from 7 different countries.
• Donate your lightly used coats, hats, boots, or gloves for the homeless of Utah (through Food Bank Community Action Services). You may drop these off at the event or at the Wellness Office at 2001 JKB anytime between now and September 24.
  

This a wonderful opportunity to come together as BYU faculty/staff for the greater good.  Come enjoy the sociality, service activities, and refreshments. We hope to see you there!
